Saurolophus has one of the smallest crest of the crested hadrosaurs and featured a small horn like crest. The purpose of the crest is unknown but it may have been for display, sexual identifacation and possibly communication. The Saurolophus roamed what is now the Gobi desert in Mongolia and grazed on desert grasses and shrubs. The main predators of Saurolophus were the velociraptor and the tarbosaurus, with these two vicious predators to avoid, Saurolophus traveled in herds for mutual protection and safety. Scientist theorize that hadrosaurs may have assigned sentry guards in the herd to look out for approaching danger so it's likely saurolophus did this as well. The name Saurolophus means, " crested lizard " and the name was given for the distinctive small crest on its head. An adult Saurolophus reached a length of 32ft while juveniles were smaller in size with a smaller crest too. Like other hadrosaurs Saurolophus could transition from walking on all four to walking on its hind legs giving it both a bipedal and qaudraped stance.
